Telford Juniors qualify for the County Junior Handicap League Finals!

Not since the iconic years of back to back county titles in 1981/1982 and the victories of 1993 and 1997 have Telford reached the finals day of the county junior league.
Are we about to replace the names of Darren MillwardSteve PowellMark Snape … Mike Fowkes … George Boden … Andy Heath … Matt Lea and Steve Clayton with the following juniors as history busting players?

Telford Junior Team have qualified for Shropshire & Herefordshire Junior Handicap League Finals by winning their group following a 3.5-2.5 win away at Bridgnorth. Telford have overcome a very strong group including the 2012 national champions Bridgnorth aswell as teams from Hawkstone Park and Shifnal.

Telford entered lasts nights match knowing that a victory would take them top of the group and unable to be caught by Bridgnorth. Junior Captain Kieran Nickless got the party started with a 3&2 victory over Bridgnorth’s Junior Captain. This was closely followed by 3&1 victories for Sophie Johnson and a 6&5 win for Westley Weston.

This led to an extremely tense following hour as we now awaited for just half a point to see us through to the finals day. Zac Wellburn lost 6&5 meaning we needed to get a half out of either Liam Kearsley or Billy Ward’s matches.

Thankfully we didn’t have to wait much longer as with Liam 1 down playing the last he produced the goods right when it mattered winning the final hole giving us the half point and with Billy Ward Sam Watkins and Ethan Lin still on the course the party had already started!

We now have one game against Shifnal at home on the 26th July before we head to the finals day the following Thursday.
Congratulations the the whole of the Junior Team!!
